Welcome to Kappa Pi -at -Large Chapter. The mission of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. As a chapter in this prestigious nursing honor society, Kappa Pi works to advance this mission through our activities. Sigma Theta Tau International and Kappa Pi recognize that the power of the organization is the people - each one of us - working together to make a difference.
If you are not a member and would like to know more about our Chapter, Kappa Pi events are open to members and non-members alike. We invite you to attend. Chapter event information can be found on the chapter homepage at http://kappapi.nursingsociety.org/kappapichapter/home/. If you are a member of STTI and are affiliated with another chapter, we would welcome your involvement. Members can easily transfer their membership to Kappa Pi or hold dual-memberships. Click on the "Membership" tab on the STTI website for more information. If you are a practicing nurse, you are eligible to join if you are legally recognized to practice, have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in any field, and have demonstrated achievement in nursing. Additional information and application guidelines are available under the "Membership" tab on the STTI website. Students are encouraged to talk with the counselors identified in the list of chapter officers.

It seems as if we just welcomed summer here to Northeastern Wisconsin and we are now saying goodbye. Although fall is beautiful we all know what’s coming next…
As board members for the Kappa Pi Chapter-at-large we are excited about the upcoming year and are hoping to facilitate several events that will be of interest to many of our members. The objective we hope to achieve through these offerings is to provide an opportunity for nurses and students a format to disseminate the work they have done, as it relates to the professional practice of nursing. These projects or research activities run the gamut of clinical practice, leadership initiatives and research, teaching either in the health care or academic setting, or evidenced-based nursing practice. It is our hope that we continue to support the active engagement of the members in our organization here at the local level, where the nurses and students are continuing to do some incredible work. Let’s continue to support and celebrate that work as a professional community!
Continuing to move forward with our two year strategic plan, recruitment of nurse leaders from Northeastern Wisconsin and the facilitation of active engagement within the organization by both new and veteran members will again be a focus of the Kappa Pi board this coming year. The traditional perception of our local organization was that we are a student organization. However, the mission of Sigma Theta Tau International is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. As the chapter for Northeastern WI it is our goal to support this mission at the local level. Throughout our community, whether in a leadership/management role, educational setting, or in clinical practice, there are many great activities being done which will help to enhance nursing education and learning, improve the quality and safety of patient care, and facilitate the growth of the professional practice of nursing. Membership and participation in a professional organization such as Kappa Pi Chapter-at-large, is a great opportunity to become involved at the local level. In addition, your membership and participation can provide you with unlimited networking opportunities, as well as demonstrate your individual commitment as a professional nurse to research and life-long learning
As an organization we are committed to the continual support of students’ who will be either entering the nursing profession for the first time, or those who have completed their BSN degree and continue to practice the provision of quality health care. However, we also feel it integral to the profession to acknowledge those nurses who are currently practicing within our community and have demonstrated excellence in leadership, education, and nursing practice. We would like to remind those nurses who are actively practicing and not yet a member of Kappa Pi that they may be eligible for induction and membership. To become a member of STTI as a Nurse Leader, candidates must:
• Be legally recognized to practice nursing in his/her country
• Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field
• Demonstrate achievement in nursing.
If you work with a nursing professional that you feel would be an ideal candidate for induction into Sigma Theta Tau, or if you know of a individual who has let their membership become inactive, I would encourage you share the information about membership with them. It is a great service opportunity and also serves as a way to mentor and role model professional practice behaviors. In addition, we have some leadership opportunities opening up within the next year that might be a great fit as you look at ways to grow in your role as a professional registered nurse. If you have any further questions or would like to talk about membership further I can be reached at email@example.com or 920-433-6673. I would love to hear from you. I have also attached a link to get further information with regard to membership.
I am truly looking forward to this upcoming year and am excited to begin working with all the new members, as well as those who have consistently worked diligently to help support the goals of the Kappa Pi Chapter. I wish everyone a safe, fun filled fall and enjoy the colors before the white appears!
